Preview: Uganda target qualification to next round

The Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team, the Teen Cranes, will be in action on Saturday as they host Zimbabwe in the return leg of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Uganda carry a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, courtesy of goals from Lydia Nameseruka and Immaculate Acen in Harare.

With one foot already in the next round, the Teen Cranes will be aiming to complete the job in front of their home fans at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, and secure progression with a convincing aggregate score.

The winner over the two legs will advance to the next qualifying round and will face either Namibia or Kenya. Kenya hold a slight edge after winning their first leg 2-1 away from home.

Team news

Following the team’s final training session at MTN-Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Friday, head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes expressed confidence in her squad’s readiness for the decisive fixture.

“The girls are excited for the return leg. We have worked on areas we didn’t do well in Zimbabwe. The pitch conditions there made it difficult to fully implement our tactical approach, but we still managed to score two goals,” Botes said.

“We are focused on scoring more goals on Saturday, improving our combinations in play, and ensuring the players are comfortable in their positions and understand how we want to approach the game.”

She added: “It’s a young group of players, and I am gradually instilling my philosophy and style of play. It’s not easy because they come from different coaching backgrounds, but we are making progress.”

“We are looking forward to a good result, and we are determined to win. I call upon the fans to come out and support the team.”

How to watch

The match will be broadcast live on FUFA TV. Entry to the stadium is free for all fans.

Prediction

Uganda 5-0 Zimbabwe
