Preview – Uganda Target First-Leg Advantage
The Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team, the Queen Cranes, are in action this evening as they take on Ghana at Accra Sports Stadium in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Uganda will be seeking a first-leg advantage against a strong Ghanaian side, but Sheryl Botes’ team will need to be at their best to secure a positive result away from home.
This is the final qualifying stage, and both sides understand what is at stake, as they are just 180 minutes away from securing a place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. However, the immediate focus remains on today’s first leg.
In 2022, Ghana eliminated Uganda on 7-1 aggregate in the same qualifiers, and Charles Sampson’s side could be motivated by their strong record against the East Africans.
Ghana have qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup seven times and are aiming for an eighth appearance, which makes the task even more challenging for Uganda.
Agnes Nabukenya, Peace Muduwa, Sumaya Nalumu, and Sylvia Kabene are expected to lead Uganda’s attacking efforts.
After today’s encounter, Uganda will host Ghana this coming Saturday, with the winner on aggregate qualifying for the World Cup in Poland later this year.

“We know it is going to be difficult against Ghana. These are the kind of games where you need to show character,” she added.
