Finance Trust Bank Funds Women Football Symposium with UGX 100M

Finance Trust Bank has injected UGX 100 million into the development of women’s football in Uganda, funding a one-day Women Football Symposium aimed at shaping the future of the game.

The symposium will be held on September 9, 2026, ahead of the start of the 2026/27 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League and Women Elite League seasons.

The event, to be held at Skys Hotel in Naguru, will bring together key stakeholders from the corporate sector, the media, FUFA and women’s football clubs to discuss strategies for further developing and strengthening the women’s game in Uganda.

Speaking at the announcement of the symposium, FUFA 2nd Vice President Dr Aza Taibuh said women’s football has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years but acknowledged that more work remains to be done.

“As we have seen, women’s football in Uganda has grown tremendously in the last few years. The Super League and Elite League have been strengthened, and we also now have Regional Women Football Leagues.

“Consequently, our different women’s national football teams have been performing well at regional and continental levels. The game has, without a doubt, grown, but there is more to be done, hence this symposium,” Dr Aza said.

Finance Trust Bank, the title sponsor of the Women Super League and Women Elite League, has committed UGX 100 million in cash sponsorship towards the event.

The symposium will also recognise outstanding performers and achievements from the previous season as part of efforts to celebrate and promote excellence in women’s football.

“As a bank, we are committed to putting women first and helping women grow in every sector. This is why we have been sponsoring the women’s football leagues and why we are today also headlining this Women Football Symposium,” said Percy Lubega, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Finance Trust Bank.

During the press conference, it was confirmed that the best player from the 2025/26 season across the two sponsored women’s leagues will be recognised, alongside the Best Coach and Best Upcoming Talent of the Season. More award categories are still under discussion.

The symposium is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to share ideas, identify challenges and explore opportunities that can further improve the development, visibility and sustainability of women’s football in Uganda.

The 2026/27 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League season is scheduled to kick off on September 12, 2026.
