Five Absentees for Police as Calvary Fight for Survival

Wednesday, May 6
Calvary vs Police, 4pm – Yumbe
Lugazi vs Mbarara City, 4pm – Najjembe

Police FC will be without five players when they visit Calvary FC on Wednesday in Yumbe as Matchday 27 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League gets underway.

Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga is ruled out with a shoulder injury, while Lawrence Tezikya is unavailable due to family commitments.

Ivan Eyamu, Otto Daniel, and Derrick Maviiri are also sidelined. However, Kizito Figo returns from suspension after missing the previous match against UPDF FC.

Police head into the fixture on the back of a 2-0 victory over UPDF FC, with goals from Charles Bbaale and Brian Obedi.

Calvary, on the other hand, suffered a 2-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC in their last outing.

In the reverse fixture, Umaru Kasumba and Brian Obedi were on target as Police secured a 2-0 win over Calvary.

Historically, Police FC have defeated Calvary FC six times in the seven meetings between the two sides. The Cops have also scored in every encounter, netting a total of 19 goals across those matches.

Calvary face a real threat of relegation this matchday. A defeat, coupled with wins for Mbarara City and UPDF FC in their respective fixtures, would mathematically confirm their drop.

UPDF FC and Mbarara City would move to 24 and 23 points respectively, while Calvary would remain on 13 points.

With only three matches remaining after this round, Calvary’s maximum possible tally would be 22 points, a total unlikely to secure survival in the top flight.

Police FC currently sit sixth with 44 points, and a win would take them to 47 points, level with fifth-placed NEC FC, although NEC hold a superior head-to-head record.

Elsewhere, relegation-threatened sides Lugazi and Mbarara City face off in Najjembe in another crucial encounter.
