Furious Bogere Hopeful Bugerere Will Overcome Kyadondo in Return Leg

Bugerere head coach Steven Bogere was left furious after his side were held to a goalless draw by Kyadondo at Ntenheru Ssaza Ground, claiming referee Alex Wasswa failed to award them a legitimate goal.

Despite the frustrating home result, Bogere remains confident that Bugerere can overturn the tie in the return leg and progress to the semifinals of the Kabaka’s Buganda Masaza Cup.

Speaking after the match, the legendary Masaza Cup coach said, “We are being robbed. Our goal went in, but again, we have been performing better on the road. The game is not yet over. I promise our fans that we are going to overcome Kyadondo and progress to the semifinals.”

The controversial moment came in the 83rd minute when Charles Ssekandi struck from the rebound after Kyadondo goalkeeper Ashiraf Bwabye had blocked Jackson Oddie’s effort.

With the goalkeeper completely beaten, Kyadondo captain Peter Ssenkungu cleared the ball, sparking celebrations among Bugerere officials, some players and most of the fans, who believed the ball had crossed the line.

Playing at Ntenjeru Kayunga, the hosts started on the front foot, with Derrick Kakooza and Kazibwe causing problems from either flank. However, Kyadondo’s centre-back partnership of Paul Kiradda and Ssenkungu remained unshaken by the early pressure.

Towards the end of the first half, Kyadondo took control of the game, although they failed to create any clear-cut chances as both sides went into the interval level at 0-0.

After the restart, Coach Noah Mugerwa and his backroom staff introduced Kenneth Ssebaduka Nketia for debutant Bruno Mukwaya. Ssebaduka added creativity from the right flank, while Enock Ssekatawa also raised his game on the opposite side.

However, neither side could find the breakthrough as the match ended goalless.

Speaking on behalf of the Kyadondo technical team, Omulangira Kiyimba Denis said after the game, “Our plan was to pick up a draw and go back home to finish the job. We are grateful to the Lord that our goal still counts.”

Kyadondo midfielder Innocent Menso Ongurucho was named Man of the Match and expressed his delight after the game.

“I am super excited because this is my first Man of the Match accolade in this Kabaka’s Buganda Masaza Cup, but also the team is still in the contest. We are going to Kyadondo to stop them and reach the semifinals,” he said.

The return leg will take place on Sunday, September 20, at St Noah Sserwanga ‘Santana ground’ in Wampeewo, where the two sides will battle for a place in the semifinals.
