FWSL: Kampi Haunts Kawempe as Title Hopes Suffer Setback

Olila 0-1 She Corporate
Uganda Martyrs 3-0 Asubo
Makerere 1-0 Kawempe
Rines 0-0 Lady Doves
Kampala Queens 0-2 Amus

Former Kawempe Muslim Ladies winger Halima Kampi scored the decisive goal as Makerere University defeated Kawempe Muslim Ladies 1-0 in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League on Sunday.

Kampi’s first-half strike was enough to hand Makerere victory and complete a league double over the Valley Warriors, dealing a significant blow to Kawempe’s title ambitions.

In what was a must-win match for Kawempe to move to the top of the table, Makerere once again proved to be their stumbling block, having also beaten them in the first round.

She Corporate had moved to the summit on Saturday following a 1-0 win over Olila, courtesy of a late goal from substitute Moureen Nankinga.

Knowing that only victory would take them back to the top, Kawempe created several chances but failed to convert them.

Kawempe have now lost just two matches this season—both against Makerere University.

With three matches remaining, Kawempe sit on 45 points, two behind leaders She Corporate FC.

However, Kawempe will have an opportunity to reclaim top spot, as they play a day earlier than She Corporate on the next matchday.

In their next fixture, Kawempe will host Rines on April 25, before She Corporate host St Noa the following day.

In their remaining fixtures, Kawempe will face Rines (home), Kampala Queens (away), and Olila (home).

She Corporate, on the other hand, will host St Noa, travel to face Uganda Martyrs, and conclude their campaign at home against She Maroons.

Elsewhere, Amus secured a 2-0 victory over Kampala Queens in Lugogo, while Lady Doves and Rines played out a goalless draw.
