FWSL Title Race: Nabukenya Rescues Kawempe to Overcome Rines
Captain Agnes Nabukenya scored the decisive goal as Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC defeated Rines FC 2-1 in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League to stay firmly in the title race.
Jovia Nakagolo gave the hosts the lead before Jasmeen Nalukwago equalised with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
In the second half, Kawempe returned stronger in search of a second and potentially decisive goal.
On the hour mark, captain Agnes Nabukenya found the back of the net to restore the lead, and her strike ultimately proved to be the winner.
The 2-1 victory keeps Kawempe in the title race with 48 points, just two behind leaders She Corporate FC, who also secured a 2-1 win over St Noa.
The win also marked Kawempe’s eighth consecutive victory over Rines FC in the top flight.
Kawempe will visit Kampala Queens FC on May 10 in their next fixture, while table leaders She Corporate FC will be away to Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC as the title race intensifies.
On the final day of the season, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will host Olila High School WFC, while She Corporate FC will take on She Maroons FC in Njeru.
Elsewhere, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC held She Maroons FC to a 1-1 draw in Luzira, with Doreen Nakayiwa scoring for the hosts to cancel out Sarah Nakuya’s opener.
In Mbale, Amus FC registered a commanding 4-0 victory over Olila High School WFC, with Shalyne Opisa scoring a brace and Mariam Namataka adding another goal.
In Masindi, reigning champions Kampala Queens FC defeated Lady Doves FC 2-1, with Joanitah Ainembabazi and Jamirah Nabulime on target, while Sharifah Nakiguude scored for the hosts.
Matchday 20 of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League concludes on Sunday, April 26, with Asubo Ladies FC taking on Makerere University WFC.
