FWSL Title Race: No Room for Error as Kawempe Host Rines

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will be in action on Saturday morning as they host Rines WFC in a must-win fixture in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League.

Kawempe come into this match following a 1-0 defeat to Makerere University, the only team to have beaten them this season, having completed a home-and-away double over them.

The Ayub Khalifah-coached side know that anything less than victory could effectively end their title hopes.

Kawempe currently sit second on the table with 45 points, just two behind leaders She Corporate FC. They will need to secure maximum points while also keeping a close eye on She Corporate, who face St Noa on the same day.

In the first-round meeting, Kawempe defeated Rines 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Latifah Nakasi. Last season, Kawempe also secured a 3-0 home victory over the same opponents.

The Valley Warriors have won their last seven consecutive matches against Rines, giving them a clear psychological edge heading into Saturday’s encounter.

Overall, the two sides have met nine times, with Kawempe winning seven matches and Rines winning two. There has never been a draw between the two teams.

A total of 32 goals have been scored in those nine meetings, averaging 3.5 goals per game, highlighting the attacking nature of this fixture.

Latifah Nakasi is the league’s second-top scorer with 13 goals, just one behind Jesca Namanda.

She will be aiming to add to her tally against a side she has consistently performed well against, even before joining Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC.

Rines FC have little at stake, as Olila High School WFC and Asubo Ladies have already been confirmed relegated.

However, Kawempe will need to remain cautious and avoid underestimating their opponents.

Elsewhere, She Corporate FC host St Noa in Njeru, Amus FC welcome Olila High School WFC, Kampala Queens FC visit Lady Doves FC, and Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women FC travel to face She Maroons on Saturday.
