Jjonga Rescues Express as Kitara Held at Nakivubo

Express FC rallied from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Kitara FC in Matchday 4 of the 2026-27 Startimes Uganda Premier League at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Thursday evening.

Under the floodlights, Nicholas Jjonga cancelled out Frank Zaga Tumwesigye’s opener as both sides shared the spoils in an entertaining encounter.

Both teams started cautiously, looking to maintain possession and control the game, but Kitara broke the deadlock in the 24th minute through Frank Zaga Tumwesigye.

Zaga fired a powerful strike past goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya, giving the visitors the lead.

Kitara came close to doubling their advantage in the 40th minute, but goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya produced a crucial save to keep Express in the contest.

At the stroke of half-time, Nicholas Jjonga restored parity for the hosts from close range after goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige spilled the initial effort.

In the second half, Alpha Ssali came close to putting Express ahead, but his volley lacked the required direction.

Goalscorer Frank Zaga nearly restored Kitara’s lead late in the game, but his effort was denied by the woodwork.

At the final whistle, Express FC and Kitara FC settled for a share of the spoils at Nakivubo.

Express sit ninth in the table with four points from four games, while Kitara are 13th with two points from four matches.

Express FC will next visit NEC FC on October 8, while Kitara FC will travel to face Kataka two days later.

Earlier in the day, UPDF FC defeated Maroons FC 1-0, courtesy of a first-half goal from Hussein Hassan Zzinda.

Matchday 4 comes to an end on Saturday, September 19, when Vipers host Ntugasaze at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
