KCCA FC Condemns Actions of Fan Linked to Death of Sydney Gongodyo

Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC has condemned the violent mob attack that led to the death of rugby player Sydney Gongodyo after footage circulating on social media showed an individual wearing the club’s jersey allegedly participating in the incident.

In an official statement, KCCA FC clarified that the actions of the individual do not represent the club’s values and principles.

The club strongly denounced all forms of violence and expressed concern over the incident, which has shocked the sporting fraternity.

“KCCA FC has become aware of social media footage showing an individual in the club’s jersey participating in a tragic mob attack on rugby player Sydney Gongodyo (RIP),” the statement read.

“The club strongly condemns the violence, stating that the individual’s actions do not reflect KCCA FC values.”

KCCA FC further revealed that the matter is currently under investigation and pledged full cooperation with the Uganda Police Force to ensure justice is served.

“The matter is under investigation, and the club is fully cooperating with the Uganda Police to ensure justice is served,” the statement added.

The club also extended its condolences to the family of the late Sydney Gongodyo, his teammates, and the wider rugby community.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the late Sydney Gongodyo’s family, teammates, and the Uganda Rugby community.”

Gongodyo passed away on June 5 under circumstances that remain under police investigation. His death has drawn widespread condemnation from across Uganda’s sporting community, with several sports bodies and clubs calling for justice.

KCCA FC concluded its statement by paying tribute to the fallen rugby player.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
