Lugazi Part Ways With Head Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa
Uganda Premier League side Lugazi FC has confirmed the departure of head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa and his assistant, Robert Sekweyama.
The club announced the development through an official statement published on its website.
“Lugazi Football Club has mutually parted company with Head Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa.
Assistant Coach Robert Sekweyama has also departed.
Mugerwa and Sekweyama worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club, but both the results and performances fell below the team’s targets and expectations.
We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future.
The club is now exploring options for the Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach roles, and further updates will follow in due course.”
Mugerwa joined Lugazi FC in December 2025 after leaving fellow Uganda Premier League side Mbarara City FC.
Although results were inconsistent during his tenure, he successfully guided Lugazi FC to safety as the club finished 13th in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season and avoided relegation.
A CAF A Licence holder, Mugerwa is one of Uganda’s experienced coaches, having enjoyed considerable success in the Masaza Cup and school football competitions over the years.
Lugazi FC is now expected to begin the search for a new technical team ahead of preparations for the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.
