Masaza Cup Group Stage Concludes in Style as Quarterfinal Fixtures Are Confirmed

The Masaza Cup group stage concluded in spectacular fashion on Sunday, August 30, with 27 goals scored across the final round of matches to set up an exciting quarterfinal lineup.

The final round of the group stage produced a goal bonanza, averaging three goals per match, making it the highest-scoring game week of the Masaza Cup season so far.

After 10 rounds of group-stage action, the tournament has produced 164 goals from 90 matches, averaging 1.82 goals per game.

Butambala finished the group stage as the highest-scoring team with 13 goals, while Kabula conceded the most goals, shipping 17 in their campaign.

Busiro and Kabula also recorded the lowest-scoring campaigns, with each side scoring just four goals. Kyaggwe, meanwhile, finished with the best defensive record after conceding only four goals, one fewer than Buddu.

In the matches played on Sunday, Busujju secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over defending champions Buwekula at Kakindu Playground, with Erias Kiyemba scoring twice in the first half.

In Mawogola, the hosts claimed an important 3-2 victory over Butambala, while Bugerere secured a vital 2-0 win over Kooki in Lwanda. The three results played a decisive role in determining the final quarterfinal places.

Kyaggwe and Gomba also secured their places in the last eight after denying Ssese and Mawokota, respectively.

Kyaggwe defeated Ssese 1-0 at Mukono Bishops, while Gomba secured a 2-0 victory over Mawokota in Kabulasoke.

In other matches, Singo defeated Kabula 3-0, while Kyadondo drew 1-1 with Buluuli in Kakooge.

Buvuma and Buddu played out a goalless draw, while Bulemeezi ended their group-stage campaign in style with a commanding 5-1 victory over Busiro.

With the group stage now complete, attention turns to the quarterfinals, where the eight remaining teams will battle for a place in the semifinals and continue their pursuit of Masaza Cup glory.
