Matovu, Jjemba Shine as Police FC Beat Lugazi

Richard Matovu and Ramsey Jjemba were the heroes of the day as Police Football Club secured a 2-0 victory over Lugazi FC at Lugazi Grounds in Najjemba on Wednesday, September 16.

Matovu and Jjemba struck in the second half, scoring in the 69th and 89th minutes respectively, as Police FC registered their second victory of the season.

Matovu opened the scoring with a long-range effort after receiving the ball from goalkeeper Hadji Shakuru. His powerful strike crashed against the crossbar before bouncing over the line to give the visitors the lead.

The Kamwokya-based side continued to pile pressure on the hosts, and their persistence was rewarded in the 89th minute when Jjemba doubled the advantage.

Against the run of play, Jjemba received the ball before sending his marker the wrong way with a dummy to the left. He then squeezed a brilliant finish into the near post to make it 2-0 and put the result beyond doubt.

Police FC, who registered nine shots on target, left Lugazi with all three points, moving to seven points and fifth position in the table.

Police’s previous league victory came on August 29, when they defeated Mbarara City 1-0 at Kira Road Arena. Wednesday’s victory over Lugazi provides further motivation as they prepare for their next match against Entebbe UPPC.

For Lugazi FC, the defeat will be a disappointing result as they now turn their attention to their next away fixture against Maroons, where they will be seeking maximum points.
