Mubiru Punishes KCCA as Villa Hand Rivals Title Setback

Hassan Mubiru scored the decisive goal as SC Villa defeated KCCA FC 1-0 in matchday 22 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

In the match played under the floodlights at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, Mubiru’s second-half strike against his former club handed Villa a deserved victory.

Despite SC Villa dominating large spells of the first half, KCCA FC created the clearer scoring opportunities, forcing goalkeeper David Lukwago into two crucial saves to deny Herbert Achai and Nana Kwikiriza.

After the break, Villa returned with greater intent to break the deadlock, and their persistence paid off just after the hour mark.

Mubiru produced a moment of brilliance, beating his marker before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box past goalkeeper Mugolofa to give Villa the lead.

The goal proved decisive, as SC Villa secured their first league victory over KCCA FC in six years. It also marked their fourth consecutive win in all competitions.

For KCCA FC, who had been on a run of five straight league victories, the defeat deals a significant blow to their title ambitions as they dropped crucial points.

SC Villa have already secured a place in the semifinals of the Uganda Cup, while KCCA FC are out of the competition, leaving the league as their only realistic chance of silverware this season.

The loss further dents their hopes and leaves them at risk of ending the campaign without a trophy.

Villa also had more reason to celebrate, as they officially announced Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela as the club president for the next term on the same day.

KCCA FC remain fourth on the table with 45 points, while SC Villa sit just behind them in fifth with 44 points.

In their next fixtures, SC Villa will host table leaders Vipers SC on 15 April, while KCCA FC will take on Kitara FC two days later.

Meanwhile, Calvary beat Buhimba 2-0 in the early kick-off to register their first legaue win this season. Lawrence Olaboro scored the two goals.
