KCCA FC defeated Maroons FC 3-0 in the Uganda Premier League on Thursday evening to climb to second place on the table.
Ashraf Mugume, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, and Herbert Achayi were all on target as the Kasasiro Boys returned to winning ways in dominant fashion at Lugogo.
Despite controlling large spells of the opening half, KCCA FC had to wait until the stroke of halftime to break the deadlock through Mugume.
Gavin Kizito delivered a cross into the box, and Ivan Ahimbisibwe rose highest to nod the ball into Mugume’s path before the midfielder smashed home past the goalkeeper to hand the hosts the lead.
Maroons FC started the second half brightly and created their first clear chance around the hour mark, but Raymond Walugembe was denied by goalkeeper Mugolofa, who pulled off a superb save.
KCCA FC sealed the victory late in the game with two quick goals in the closing minutes.
Substitute Herbert Achayi doubled the lead with a brilliant curling effort from outside the box before Ivan Ahimbisibwe added the third goal at the death off an assist from Mugume.
The goal took Ahimbisibwe’s tally to 13 league goals this season, extending his lead at the top of the scoring charts with three matches remaining.
Mugume’s impressive display also earned him the Player of the Match award.
The victory moves KCCA FC to second place with 55 points, four behind leaders Vipers SC, who face URA FC on Friday.
Maroons FC, meanwhile, remain ninth on the table with 34 points from 27 matches.
In their next fixtures, Maroons FC will host Entebbe UPPC on May 12, while KCCA FC will visit UPDF FC the following day.
