NEC’s Basangwa Rushed to Hospital After Late Incident in Express Draw

NEC FC forward Richard Basangwa was rushed to hospital following a serious injury sustained during his side’s goalless draw with Express FC on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred in the closing stages of the match after a dangerous challenge from Express substitute Glory Kisule.

Kisule appeared to have struck Basangwa with an elbow or punch, leaving the forward in need of urgent medical attention.

The referee immediately halted play and summoned medical personnel onto the pitch, before issuing a straight red card to Kisule.

The medical team attended to Basangwa for several minutes, but he failed to respond adequately to treatment on the field, necessitating his evacuation to hospital.

Reports indicate that the designated ambulance experienced mechanical issues and lacked some essential medical equipment, prompting the use of a Toyota Land Cruiser to assist in transporting the player.

Further updates on Basangwa’s condition are expected.

The match eventually concluded in a goalless draw at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo. NEC FC, who remain unbeaten this year, sit fifth on the table with 41 points, while Express FC are 10th with 30 points.
