Okello Crowned, Gongodyo Honoured at ForteBet Real Stars Awards

The winners of the ForteBet Real Stars Monthly Awards for June have been announced, with footballer Allan Okello, rally driver Hassan Alwi, boxer Ukasha Matovu and rugby player Yasin Wasswa emerging victorious in their respective categories.

A special recognition award was also presented to rugby personality Sydney Gongodyo.

Football – Allan Okello

Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello was named the Football Player of the Month after playing a key role in Young Africans’ (Yanga) successful Tanzania NBC Premier League title campaign.

Okello helped Yanga secure a fifth consecutive league title, producing an outstanding run of performances in June. The former Vipers SC and KCCA FC star scored 14 goals and provided eight assists during the season. In June alone, he netted a hat-trick against Tanzania Revenue Authority FC and registered an assist against JKT Tanzania in six appearances.

Rally – Hassan Alwi

Hassan Alwi claimed the Rally Driver of the Month award following his victory at the KCB-SMC Masaka Rally in Sembabule.

The International University of East Africa and DFCU-sponsored driver overcame strong competition from Jonas Kansime and Duncan Mubiru, finishing first with a winning time of 1:10:22.97.

Alwi, who also won the opening round of the National Rally Championship in Mbale, maintained his position at the top of the championship standings.

Boxing – Ukasha Matovu

Ukasha Matovu, popularly known as ‘Morocco Ukashalee’, scooped the Boxing Award after an impressive return to the Uganda Boxing Champions League.

Competing for the first time in 542 days, Matovu made a memorable comeback by knocking out Katabi Boxing Club’s Isaac Kasasa in seven minutes and 29 seconds during Week Five of Season Five of the Uganda Boxing Champions League.

His spectacular ring walk, which featured Irish gypsy-inspired attire, and his trademark powerful left hook thrilled fans at the MTN Arena, which was filled to capacity.

Rugby – Yasin Wasswa

Toyota Buffaloes’ Yasin Wasswa was named Rugby Player of the Month after delivering a match-winning performance in the league final against Stanbic Black Pirates.

Wasswa scored 19 points in Buffaloes’ 30-29 loss to Pirates. His outstanding display earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the final.

He was also recognised for his consistency throughout the season and his impressive performances in the semifinals, which were played in June.

Special Award

A Special Recognition Award was presented to rugby personality Sydney Gongodyo in honour of his contribution to the sport.
