Police Beat Mbarara Away for the First Time

By: Geoffrey Mugabi

Police FC came from behind to defeat Mbarara City 2-1, registering their first-ever away victory against the Ankole Lions in the Uganda Premier League.

Daniel Jakony and Teny Marko scored for the visitors, overturning Muhammed Kanyike’s first-half strike for Mbarara City.

In the match played at Rwamwanja Stadium on Thursday, clear-cut chances were limited for both sides.

However, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when Muhammed Kanyike found the back of the net to give Mbarara City a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Police FC struggled to respond early in the second half but eventually found their equaliser in the 75th minute through Daniel Jakony.

The visitors continued to push for a winner, and their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when substitute Teny Marko scored in the 95th minute to secure all three points.

The victory sees Police FC return to winning ways after back-to-back league defeats and also marks their first-ever away win against Mbarara City.

The win lifts Police FC to sixth place with 38 points, one ahead of NEC FC, who have a game in hand.

Mbarara City remain just one point above the relegation zone and have now gone seven consecutive league matches without a win.

In their next fixtures, Police FC will host URA FC on April 21, while Mbarara City will face Maroons FC on the same day.

Elsewhere, Entebbe UPPC came from behind to beat Buhimba 2-1 in Butema.

Later this evening, URA FC, coached by Hussein Mbalangu, will take on Alex Isabirye’s BUL FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
