Sentamu Brace Fires Vipers Past Entebbe UPPC to Go Seven Points Clear

Vipers SC stretched their lead at the top of the Uganda Premier League to seven points after a commanding 3-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday evening.

Yunus Sentamu scored a brace, while substitute Gusto Mulongo added the third to seal an emphatic home win for the Venoms.

Entebbe UPPC assistant coach Livingstone Mbabazi took charge on the touchline in the absence of head coach Abdullah Mubiru, who is mourning the loss of his father.

Sentamu thought he had given Vipers an early lead inside five minutes, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Thirteen minutes later, he beat two defenders but saw his shot cleared off the goal line by Entebbe UPPC’s Sam Kintu.

In the 33rd minute, Entebbe UPPC suffered a setback when Abraham Kakensa Tusubira picked up an injury and was replaced by Sadick Nasur.

With four minutes left in the first half, Ambrose Kigozi missed a clear chance to put the visitors ahead after being denied in a one-on-one situation by goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu, as both teams went into the break level.

Vipers returned strongly after halftime and took the lead within five minutes of the restart, with Yunus Sentamu heading home from a Karim Watambala corner kick.

In the 77th minute, Sentamu doubled the lead, finishing off a brilliant assist from Enock Ssebagala to register his second goal of the match and his fourth league goal of the season.

Immediately after the goal, Sentamu and Milton Karisa were substituted for Gusto Mulongo and Usama Arafat respectively.

Mulongo made an instant impact, scoring just three minutes after coming on to make it 3-0, finishing from Enock Luyima’s cross.

At full time, Vipers secured maximum points to maintain their position at the summit with 58 points, seven ahead of second-placed SC Villa.

Entebbe UPPC remain seventh on the table with 41 points from 25 matches.

In their next fixtures, Vipers SC will visit KCCA FC on April 29, while Entebbe UPPC will host bottom-placed Calvary FC.
