Ssenyondo: KCCA’s Win Over Kataka Was Long Overdue

KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo insists Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Kataka FC was not a matter of relief, but a result he believes had been coming after a difficult start to the 2026-27 Uganda Premier League season.

Emmanuel Anyama’s second-half strike at home handed the Kasasiro Boys their first league victory of the campaign, following two defeats and a draw in their opening three fixtures.

Speaking after the game, Ssenyondo maintained that KCCA had been the better side in their previous matches but had been let down by their failure to turn their performances into results.

“I don’t believe it’s relief, but it was long overdue since we last won game. Of course, we know when we score first, we are a hard team to beat, and we always have the three points,” he started.

Ssenyondo acknowledged that the victory could provide some relief to his players, who had been desperate to get their first win of the season.

“Maybe a relief to the boys because they needed this win so badly and that vital goal. Thankful, we scored the goal and gotten the three points,” he added.

The KCCA FC boss also defended his team’s performances in the opening fixtures, arguing that their position in the table did not necessarily reflect how they had played.

“I think in all the games we’ve played, we’ve been the better side, only that we’ve not won and you know football is judged by the results but when you look at the game, we were the better side. We created a lot of chances,” said Ssenyondo.

Anyama eventually ended KCCA’s wait for a league victory when he found the breakthrough in the second half, allowing the hosts to protect their advantage and collect all three points.

With the international break now underway, Ssenyondo believes the timing provides an opportunity to work on the team before the league resumes.

“The international break has come on the good note for us because it helps us to go back and reshape, organise, and come back stronger,” he concluded.

The victory sends KCCA FC to eighth position on the table with four points from four league games.

The Kasasiro Boys will return to action on October 9 when they visit wounded URA FC at Nakivubo.
