Two-time Masaza Cup champions Ssingo have unveiled a squad of 30 players as preparations for the 2026 Airtel Buganda Masaza Cup gather momentum, with a series of build-up matches lined up ahead of the tournament.
Speaking during the squad unveiling, Ssingo Team Management Committee Chairman Ronald Ssekajja expressed confidence in the team’s prospects for the upcoming campaign.
“Today we have unveiled our players to the fans, and I believe we have assembled a strong squad. Even in the ongoing friendly match against Kyaggwe, where we are trailing, we have fielded only new players because nine of our returning players rejoined the camp just a day ago. Once the entire squad is available and blends together, I believe we can compete for and win the trophy,” Ssekajja said.
However, Ssingo eventually lost the friendly match to Kyaggwe after being reduced to 10 men following the sending-off of goalscorer Calvin Peter Emayu.
The two sides will meet again on June 7 when Kyaggwe unveil their squad, before Ssingo conclude their preparations with a friendly away to Buddu in Masaka on June 14.
Ssingo will then begin their 2026 Masaza Cup campaign against Kabula.
Ssekajja also reflected on last season’s disappointment, when Ssingo lost 1-0 to Buweekula in the final.
“Last season we had enough quality to win the trophy, but the team lacked discipline. This time we are working hard to address that and ensure everything is put in place early. I call upon all Ssingo people to support the team in any way possible, including offering advice,” he added.
At the same event, former Mukwenda Godfrey Mbalire contributed UGX 1 million towards the team’s preparations and urged all Ssingo residents to rally behind the cause.
“I call upon the people of Bukomero, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, and Kasanda to join us. This team does not belong to the people of Mityana alone. Let us unite as Ssingo and pursue our third Masaza Cup title because we need to keep Gomba within reach if we are to overtake them,” Mbalire said.

Meanwhile, the current Mukwenda, Godfrey Kagimu, emphasised discipline and challenged the players to do everything possible to bring the trophy back to Ssingo.
He also officially handed over a match ball to team captain Moses Mukisa and head coach Emmy Kisaakye as a symbolic gesture ahead of the new season.
Ssingo have been drawn in the Muganzirwazza Group alongside Kabula, Kooki, Mawogola, Butambala, and Bugerere.
Kabula, Kooki, Mawogola, and Butambala were all in the same group as Ssingo last season, while Bugerere replace Kyaggwe, who topped the group in the previous campaign.
