Substitute Glodi Beyuku scored a late equaliser for Vipers SC as they shared the spoils with KCCA FC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, in Matchday 26 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Ivan Ahimbisibwe scored for KCCA FC before Beyuku equalised as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Under the floodlights on Wednesday evening, an intense contest was expected, with a large crowd turning up as KCCA FC aimed to close the gap at the top to four points, while Vipers sought to maintain their seven-point lead.

Just five minutes into the match, Vipers were forced into an early substitution, with Derrick Ndahiro replacing the injured Enock Luyima at left-back.

In the 11th minute, Ashraf Mugume tested Vipers goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu with a well-taken free kick.

Three minutes later, Enock Ssebagala thought he had given Vipers the lead, but his goal was ruled out for offside, with a teammate deemed to have interfered with goalkeeper Mugulofa.

In the 22nd minute, Mugulofa produced a fine save to deny Ssebagala once again.

With 11 minutes remaining before halftime, Ivan Ahimbisibwe was fouled by Dasylva inside the box, and the hosts were awarded a penalty.

Ahimbisibwe stepped up and confidently converted to give KCCA FC a 1-0 lead at the break.

The goal took his tally to 12 league goals, placing him at the top of the scoring charts.

The second half saw increased intensity, with KCCA pushing to extend their lead while Vipers searched for an equaliser.

Vipers eventually found their breakthrough through substitute Glodi Beyuku, who had replaced Yunus Sentamu in the 72nd minute.

The Venoms showed resilience, building a team move that saw Karim Watambala set up Beyuku, who calmly finished to level the score and secure a point for the visitors.

Vipers remain unbeaten on the pitch this season, with their only loss coming via a FUFA Disciplinary Panel decision that awarded Kitara the points.

The reigning champions stay top of the table with 59 points, seven ahead of KCCA FC, who move to 52 points after the draw.

If SC Villa and Kitara draw on Thursday, Vipers will need only victories against URA FC and Police FC to secure the title, with two games still in hand.

In their next fixtures, Vipers will face Kitara on May 1 before hosting URA FC on May 8 in the league.

KCCA FC, meanwhile, will host Maroons FC on May 7 at Lugogo.
