The Truth: Vipers or KCCA — Where Will Ivan Ahimbisibwe Land?

The race for prolific Uganda Cranes striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe is entering its decisive stage, with Uganda Premier League giants Vipers SC and KCCA FC battling to secure his signature before the transfer window closes on Saturday, September 19.

It has been 35 days since Ahimbisibwe officially left KCCA FC to join Iraqi side Zhako SC, but his spell in Iraq could be coming to an early end, with the striker now set for a return to the Uganda Premier League.

Sports Light Uganda understands that both Vipers SC and KCCA FC have tabled offers for the highly-rated forward as they look to complete a deal before the transfer deadline.

According to reports, Zhako SC failed to meet the contractual terms agreed with Ahimbisibwe, leading both parties to mutually agree to terminate the contract and leaving the striker a free agent.

Ahimbisibwe is expected to return to Uganda from Iraq this weekend, a situation that could make it difficult for either club to complete the transfer before deadline day.

However, it is believed that the striker has already agreed personal terms with Vipers SC, with the Venoms now working to finalise the deal before the window closes.

KCCA FC, meanwhile, are also keen to bring their former striker back to Lugogo.

After winning only one of their opening four Uganda Premier League matches this season, the Kasasiro Boys believe Ahimbisibwe could provide the goals needed to improve their performances and challenge for honours this season.

Ahimbisibwe has previously worked with KCCA FC head coach Brian Ssenyondo at different clubs, including during his previous spell at KCCA FC. That existing relationship could give the Kasasiro Boys an advantage in their attempt to beat Vipers to his signature.

However, uncertainty surrounding Ssenyondo’s position at KCCA FC could also influence Ahimbisibwe’s decision and potentially push him towards a move to Vipers SC.

It is also believed that Vipers’ offer is better than the one tabled by KCCA FC, with the Kitende-based side doing everything possible to complete the transfer before the window closes.

Ahimbisibwe would bring proven goalscoring ability to either side. Last season, he finished as the Uganda Premier League’s top scorer with 14 goals and has consistently performed at a high level in the domestic top flight.

A move to Vipers would also continue the recent trend of players crossing from Lugogo to Kitende, with Joel Sserunjogi and Usama Arafat among the latest players to make the switch.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, the battle between Vipers SC and KCCA FC for Ahimbisibwe’s signature is reaching its climax.
