Uganda Cranes Defender Timothy Awany Secures Bulgarian Top-Flight Move

Uganda Cranes defender Timothy Awany has completed a move to Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv.

The club confirmed the signing through its official social media platforms, welcoming the experienced centre-back ahead of the new season.

Awany joins Botev Plovdiv after ending a seven-year spell with Israeli side Ashdod, where he established himself as a key member of the team.

Founded a century ago, Botev Plovdiv is the Bulgaria’s oldest and one of the most successful football clubs, boasting a rich history and several major domestic titles.

The former KCCA FC defender will wear jersey number 20 and becomes Botev Plovdiv’s fourth signing of the current transfer window.

Botev Plovdiv finished eighth in the Bulgarian top flight last season and are actively strengthening their squad as they look to improve their performances in the upcoming campaign.

For Awany, the move presents an opportunity to continue competing at a high level in European football while maintaining his place in the Uganda Cranes setup.

The composed defender will be aiming for regular playing time as he seeks to secure a spot in Uganda’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
