Uganda Cup Final: Kitara, SC Villa Battle for Silverware and Continental Ticket

The winners of the 52nd edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup will be crowned on Saturday when Kitara FC face SC Villa at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The final was initially scheduled to be played at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba. However, Kitara petitioned against the venue, citing SC Villa’s use of the stadium as their home ground during the 2025/26 season. Following the appeal, the match was moved to Njeru.

SC Villa are chasing a record-equalling 10th Uganda Cup title, which would see them level with Express FC and KCCA FC as the competition’s most successful clubs.

Kitara, meanwhile, are aiming to win the trophy for only the second time in their history.

It has been 11 years since SC Villa last lifted the Uganda Cup after defeating KCCA FC in a replay at Nakivubo Stadium.

To reach the final, SC Villa eliminated URA FC, while Kitara knocked out defending champions Vipers SC, a result that has boosted the Royals’ confidence ahead of Saturday’s decisive encounter.

SC Villa will look to the attacking quartet of Frank Ssebuufu, Charles Lwanga, Hassan Mubiru, and Patrick Jonah Kakande to provide the goals.

For Kitara, Patrick Kaddu, George Senkaaba, and Living Kabon are expected to lead the charge in attack as they seek to guide the club to another historic triumph.

Kitara have been particularly impressive defensively throughout their Uganda Cup campaign, conceding just one goal while scoring 13.

The Roayls’ defensive solidity will pose a significant challenge to SC Villa, who will need to be at their very best to break them down.

In the Uganda Premier League this season, SC Villa and Kitara each won at home.

However, cup finals often present a different challenge, with form and previous results carrying less significance once silverware is at stake.

With neither side expected to take many risks, the contest could be decided by which team creates and capitalises on the few chances that come their way.

The winner of the Uganda Cup will earn the right to represent Uganda in the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.
