Uganda’s St Mary’s Kitende head into the semifinals of the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship aiming to make history as they chase a place in their first-ever final.

The CECAFA representatives reached their second semifinal appearance after an impressive and unbeaten run in the group stages.

Their campaign began with a 1-1 draw against hosts Zimbabwe on April 6, 2026, with Bashir Edema scoring the equalizer to secure a point in the opening fixture.

Despite dominating the match and creating several chances, Uganda once again fell short of winning their opening game, extending their streak against host nations.

Determined to bounce back, the team returned stronger and thrashed DR Congo 6-0. Captain Owen Mukisa led the charge with a hat-trick, while Musa Kironde, Ivan Kakinda, and Emanuel Opio each added a goal. The emphatic victory secured Kitende’s place in the semifinals.

The final group game against Morocco was crucial in deciding the Group A leaders, as Uganda aimed to avoid a potential clash with Senegal, who had already topped Group B.

Despite Morocco’s strong start to the tournament, Uganda proved dominant, winning 3-0 courtesy of Owen Mukisa and a brace from Lucky Wanyama.

That victory confirmed Uganda as Group A winners and set up a semifinal clash against Benin, the runners-up in Group B.

The two sides will meet for the first time, with Uganda determined to reach their maiden final.

The match will be played at 1:30PM local time (2:30PM Ugandan time) and will be broadcast live on CAF TV (YouTube) and SuperSport Channel 225.

Captain Owen Mukisa goes into the game with four goals and will be looking to add to his tally as he eyes the Golden Boot.

Livingston Kulata, Uganda’s captain, anticipates a tough encounter against Benin.
“We have had a good last training session as we get ready to play Benin tomorrow (Thursday). They (Benin) worked hard to get out of the game and this is the reason I expect a challenging match. But, I am hopeful, we shall battle and eliminate them.” Kulata remarked.

Head coach Hassan Zungu is equally confident ahead of the clash.
“The last training was good and the response of the players is good. The attitude is good and we shall go to fight for a win. We looked at the Benin team and have planned accordingly. The attitude of the players is positive and we have prepared well” Zzungu stated after the last training under sunny conditions.

Uganda is likely to once again miss midfielder Henry Muhozi, who has been sidelined with an injury since the start of the tournament.

However, the rest of the squad is fully fit and ready for the crucial semifinal encounter.
