UPDF FC Restructures Leadership at Successful AGM

Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC held a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) this week at the Ndere Cultural Centre in Ntinda, Kampala.

The AGM approved several key changes aimed at strengthening the club both on and off the pitch ahead of the new season.

Among the notable attendees were Uganda Premier League Chief Executive Officer Bernard Bainamani and FUFA delegate Aisha Nalule.

During the meeting, Brigadier General Richard Karemire was elected as the club’s new chairman, replacing Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Kulu, who now assumes the role of vice chairman.

Elsewhere, Lieutenant Sheldon Turyamureeba replaced Lance Corporal Walter Mambo as the club’s Chief Executive Officer.

The club’s Board of Directors comprises Lieutenant Muhereza, representing the Special Forces Command on behalf of Colonel Gilbert Owamagyezi; Colonel Robert Ngabirano, representing the Air Force; Major Kategeya; Captain Phionah Kanohire; Captain Lutwama; and Captain Katongole, who represents the fans.

Outgoing CEO Lance Corporal Walter Mambo expressed gratitude to the army leadership for the opportunity to serve the club.

“I thank the army leadership for entrusting me with this responsibility, which enabled me to gain valuable experience in football administration and leadership,” Mambo said.

New chairman Brigadier General Richard Karemire emphasized the importance of unity and teamwork in achieving the club’s objectives.

“We must work together as one unit to secure more funding and strengthen all our teams,” Karemire said.

UPDF manages three teams competing in FUFA competitions: the senior men’s team, UPDF FC; UPDF Women FC; and the club’s U17 boys’ team.

Last season, UPDF FC narrowly escaped relegation after finishing with 22 points, just one above the relegation zone, under the guidance of coach Alex Gita.

The AGM also focused on key strategic areas, including youth development, the growth of the women’s team, improving competitiveness in the senior team, governance, commercial growth, branding, and overall club development.
