Ugandan midfielder Allan Okello continued his impressive form in the NBC Premier League with a brace as Young Africans defeated Namungo FC 3-1 on Monday to maintain top spot on the table.
Mudathir Yahya provided the assist for Duke Abuya’s opener in the 27th minute before Hassan Kabunda equalised for the visitors to send the game into halftime level at 1-1.
In the second half, it took only eight minutes for Allan Okello to restore Young Africans’ lead after being set up by Prince Dube.
With seven minutes left on the clock, Okello grabbed his second goal of the match courtesy of an assist from Kibwana Shomari to seal a comfortable 3-1 victory for the league leaders.
The win keeps Young Africans S.C. at the top of the table with 60 points, two ahead of rivals Simba SC with five matches remaining this season.
Okello’s brace means he has now scored two goals in each of his last four consecutive league matches and has taken his tally to 11 league goals alongside seven assists this season.
The Ugandan international has scored nine league goals in his last five matches, netting braces against Namungo FC, Singida Black Stars, Dodoma Jiji FC, and Coastal Union FC, in addition to scoring once against KMC FC.
His latest brace takes him to 11 league goals since joining Young Africans from Vipers SC at the start of the year, leaving him just three goals behind the league’s top scorer, Salum.
In league competition alone, Okello has now been directly involved in 18 goals in 19 appearances, further boosting speculation surrounding a potential move to Fenerbahçe S.K..
Young Africans will next face Mashujaa FC in their upcoming league fixture.
