Uganda 1-1 DR Congo
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Teenage striker James Bogere scored a late equalizer as Uganda Cranes held DR Congo to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match played on Monday, October 5.
Uganda faced DR Congo in the second of two friendly matches at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, with the game ending in a stalemate.
Following Uganda’s 2-0 victory three days earlier, the Cranes needed a late goal from Bogere to cancel out Nathael Mbuku’s opener and ensure the two sides shared the spoils.
The first half produced few clear scoring opportunities, with neither side able to break the deadlock.
DR Congo eventually took the lead in the 63rd minute when Nathael Mbuku found the back of the net.
Mbuku beat his marker on the right flank before cutting inside and unleashing a shot towards the near post that left Uganda goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi with little chance.
Eight minutes later, DR Congo came close to doubling their advantage, but Jorthy Mokio was brilliantly denied by Osayi.
In the 88th minute, substitute James Bogere tested the DR Congo goalkeeper but could not find the back of the net.
However, three minutes later, Bogere made no mistake as he restored parity for Uganda.
Denis Omedi released Bogere inside the box, and the teenager immediately unleashed a powerful shot that beat the goalkeeper to level the score.
The goal was enough to earn Uganda a draw and ensure the Cranes ended the international break without defeat.
Uganda had earlier drawn with Tunisia before beating Libya in their opening two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group matches. They then recorded a victory and a draw against DR Congo in the two friendly matches.
The players will now return to their respective clubs for domestic competitions, with the Uganda Premier League set to resume on Wednesday, October 7.
