Vipers Eye Victory to Move Closer to League Title

Vipers SC host URA FC on Friday evening in the Startimes Uganda Premier League Matchday 27 fixture as they look to move a step closer to retaining the league title.

The Venoms come into the game after salvaging a late draw against KCCA FC in their previous league outing, with Glodi Beyuku scoring the equaliser to preserve their unbeaten run on the pitch this season.

Vipers SC’s only defeat of the campaign came via a boardroom decision after forfeiting their first-round fixture against Kitara FC.

A victory over URA FC would take the Kitende-based side to 62 points, meaning they would only need another win against Police FC in their next match to seal the league title with two games to spare.

URA FC head into the contest without a win in their last six matches across all competitions and face a side that remains unbeaten at home this season.

Vipers SC have only dropped points at home on three occasions this campaign, drawing against Kitara FC, NEC FC, and SC Villa.

In the reverse fixture, Karim Watambala scored a brace while Gusto Mulongo added the other goal as Vipers defeated URA FC at Nakivubo.

Last season, the Venoms secured a 2-0 victory over URA FC courtesy of goals from Enock Luyima and Allan Okello.

Watambala has scored 10 league goals this season and could be further motivated by the race for the Golden Boot as he looks to help his side secure another crucial victory.

The midfielder is currently three goals behind league top scorer Ivan Ahimbisibwe.

Elsewhere, Buhimba United Saints will be desperate for maximum points against Express FC in Hoima as they seek to move within three points of safety with only three matches left to play.

At Wankulukuku, SC Villa host BUL FC with the Jogoos aiming to strengthen their push for a second-place finish.
