WATCH: Police Fire Warning Shots to Rescue Kyaddondo Technical Team After Busujju Defeat
Police were forced to intervene and fire warning shots to rescue the Kyaddondo technical team following their 1-0 defeat to Busujju in Matchday Three of the 2026 Masaza Cup on Sunday.
Kyaddondo suffered a narrow defeat away from home and finished the match with 10 men after goalkeeper Ashraf Bwabye was sent off.
The result leaves Kyaddondo without a victory in their opening three matches, having recorded two draws and one defeat.
Scenes of unrest unfolded after the final whistle as a section of Kyaddondo supporters stormed towards the technical area in protest over the team’s poor start to the tournament.
In a video recorded by senior sports journalist Geoffrey Mugerwa, angry fans can be seen confronting the Kyaddondo technical team led by head coach Bright Nyanzi Taddeo.
As tensions escalated, security personnel intervened to protect the coaching staff. However, with the crowd continuing to grow, police fired warning shots into the air to disperse the supporters and create a safe passage for the coaches.
According to eyewitnesses, the supporters were frustrated by the team’s recent results and were specifically targeting head coach Bright Nyanzi.
A vehicle belonging to BBS Terefayina was used to evacuate the Kyaddondo technical team from the venue under police protection.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and all members of the technical team were safely escorted away.
Following the events, this website understands that Bright Nyanzi Taddeo has stepped down as Kyaddondo head coach.
