Kitara FC 0-1 NEC FC
———————————————————————————————
Richard Basangwa scored the decisive goal as NEC FC defeated Kitara FC 1-0 away from home on Saturday to dent the Royals’ Uganda Premier League title ambitions as Matchday 27 concluded.
Basangwa marked his return from injury with the winning goal in the second half to hand NEC FC all three points and leave Kitara FC trailing league leaders Vipers SC by six points.
The visitors created several chances during the game, but it was Basangwa who made the difference in the 50th minute, heading home after capitalising on a poor defensive clearance from Benjamin Nyakoojo.
Kitara FC also created a number of scoring opportunities, but NEC FC goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo produced a brilliant display to keep the hosts at bay until the final whistle.
The performance further justified Sebwalunyo’s recognition as the Real Stars Sports Monthly Award winner for April, as he played a key role in NEC FC’s victory.
NEC FC have now defeated Kitara FC five times in their last seven meetings.
The victory moves NEC FC to 50 points in fifth place, while Kitara FC remain third on 54 points after missing the chance to reduce the gap on leaders Vipers SC to three points.
NEC FC have now kept 13 consecutive clean sheets in all competitions and remain unbeaten this year.
In their next fixture, Kitara FC will visit Express FC on May 12 at Nakivubo, while NEC FC will host struggling Buhimba United Saints the following day at Lugogo.
