Kenyan Giants Eye Vipers Midfielder Katongole

Kenyan giants Gor Mahia are interested in signing Vipers SC midfielder Frank Katongole, Sports Light Uganda understands.

The record Kenyan champions contacted Katongole’s representatives on Wednesday, July 8, to explore the possibility of signing the midfielder ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Gor Mahia won the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League title and will represent Kenya in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, a move that would present Katongole with an opportunity to compete on the continental stage.

Katongole has six months remaining on his contract with Vipers SC, making him eligible to enter pre-contract negotiations with interested clubs, subject to transfer regulations.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder progressed through the ranks at St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School, Kitende before earning promotion to the Vipers senior team.

During his time at St. Mary’s Kitende, he won two USSSA Boys’ Football Championship titles, establishing himself as one of the country’s promising young midfielders.

Despite his potential, Katongole has struggled for regular playing time at Vipers. With the club strengthening its midfield, including the recent arrival of Joel Sserunjogi, the youngster is understood to be open to a move in search of more first-team opportunities.

Meanwhile, Vipers SC have confirmed the departures of Taddeo Lwanga, Grant Matsiko, and goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new season.
