Vipers Complete Move for Mudekereza Replacement
Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have completed the signing of Gabonese goalkeeper Loyce Marius Mbaba, Sports Light Uganda understands.
Mbaba joins the Venoms as a direct replacement for Alfred Mudekereza, who recently left the club following the expiry of his contract.
Goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya also departed, prompting Vipers to reinforce their goalkeeping department.
It is understood that new head coach Denis Lavagne recommended Mbaba’s signing, believing the experienced shot-stopper will be a valuable addition to the squad.
The 28-year-old has earned more than 16 caps for the Gabon senior national team and brings significant international experience to Kitende.
Mbaba represented Gabon at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he featured against Côte d’Ivoire, and also played in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
At club level, he won the 2017/18 Gabon Championnat National D1 title with AS MangaSport.
Before joining Vipers, Mbaba featured for AS MangaSport, Bouaké FC, and Stella Club d’Adjamé.
Vipers have already strengthened their squad with the signings of Joel Sserunjogi, Jacques Mangoba, and Nicholas Mwere, with more arrivals expected as the club continues preparations for the 2026/27 season.
