Hon. Silas Aogon Flags Off Amus College for CAF Africa Schools Championship

Amus College has officially been flagged off to represent Uganda at the 2026 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship CECAFA Qualifiers, scheduled for September 3–5 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The school will make history by representing Uganda in both the boys’ and girls’ categories after securing double victories at the USSSA National Championships held in Gulu in July. Amus College became the first school to win both national titles in the same year.

The team was flagged off by Hon. Silas Aogon, Member of Parliament for Kumi Municipality, who urged the young athletes to approach the competition with courage, discipline and hard work.

Hon. Aogon emphasised that talent alone is not enough to achieve success in sport, encouraging the players to remain committed, disciplined and determined throughout their campaign.

He also highlighted the important role sports play in youth development, noting that investment in sporting talent can create opportunities for young people while contributing to the development of communities and the country at large.

Amus College now heads to Kigali carrying Uganda’s hopes in both categories. The school returns to the CECAFA stage after a three-year absence, having previously featured in the inaugural qualifiers in 2022.

The challenge in Kigali will be significant, but with the backing of their school and country, Amus College will be aiming to build on Uganda’s strong record in the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship.

Uganda’s boys have reached the continental finals in each of the first four editions, with St Mary’s Kitende finishing runners-up at the 2026 continental finals in Harare, Zimbabwe.

For Amus College, the mission is clear: compete with courage, work hard, remain disciplined and fly the Ugandan flag high in Kigali.
