CAF Africa Schools Football Championship: Zimbabwe Vs Uganda Preview.

Event : CAF Africa Schools Football Championship Finals
Match : Zimbabwe Vs Uganda (St Marys Kitende)
Time : 3:25 PM (EAT)

The CAF Africa Schools Football Championship Finals officially kick off today, Monday 6th April 2026, in Harare, Zimbabwe, marking the fourth edition of this prestigious educational and sporting tournament.

Teams arrived between 1st and 2nd April, giving them ample time to recover from travel fatigue, train, and adapt to the local weather conditions. A total of eight matches are scheduled as the competition gets underway.

Uganda, represented by St Mary’s Kitende, will begin their campaign against hosts Zimbabwe at 3:25 PM (EAT). The Ugandan side will be aiming to start on a high and secure maximum points to set the tone for their tournament.

However, Uganda comes into this fixture with a poor record in opening matches at the finals. Since 2024, they have consistently faced host nations in their opening games but have yet to win.

They lost 1-0 to Tanzania in 2024 and 2-0 to Ghana in a subsequent edition. Despite this, the team has shown resilience by winning their remaining group stage matches in past tournaments.

Head coach Hassan Zungu, alongside team captain Owen Mukisa, will be determined to break this trend.

Uganda will rely heavily on the creativity of midfielder Henry Muhozi, whose dribbling ability, tactical awareness, and decision-making make him a standout player.

Muhozi enters the tournament as the Most Valuable Player from the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers. Captain Owen Mukisa is also one to watch, having led Buddo Secondary School to the National Boys Football Championship and captained Uganda back to the U-17 AFCON following an impressive CECAFA qualifying campaign, where he was also named Most Valuable Player.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, coach Hassan Zungu described the competition as an important benchmark for the team, noting that it offers a chance to measure themselves against the best teams on the continent.

Captain Owen Mukisa emphasized the need for hard work and commitment, highlighting the pride of representing both their school and the nation on such a big stage.

Hosts Zimbabwe will be making their debut appearance at the finals. Although they finished fifth in the 2025/26 qualifiers held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, they qualified automatically as the host nation.

The team is led by head coach Jatson Maposa, with Dwayne Musona serving as captain.

Maposa acknowledged that preparations were not as early as those of other teams but stressed the importance of performing well at home and making the nation proud.

Captain Dwayne Musona expressed excitement about participating in their first international competition and called on supporters to rally behind the team.
