Century of Goals: On This Day Four Years Ago, Hasifah Nassuna Made History
On May 11, 2022, Hasifah Nassuna scored her 100th goal in the FUFA Women Super League to become the first player ever to reach the milestone.
Nassuna, widely regarded as one of the greatest female footballers Uganda has ever produced, achieved the historic feat during UCU Lady Cardinals’ 2-1 defeat to Kampala Queens FC.
Despite the loss, Nassuna still had reason to celebrate after becoming the first and only player to score 100 league goals in the competition.
Ahead of the match, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) had issued a directive that any player reaching 100 league goals would be recognised during a game.
True to that directive, the match was briefly halted to honour Nassuna, with players and fans applauding her remarkable achievement.

Her goal against Kampala Queens FC was her ninth of that season, adding to the 14 she scored in 2015, 18 in the 2015/2016 season, 26 in 2016/2017, 10 in 2017/2018, 18 in 2018/2019, two in 2019/2020, and three in 2021 to make it 100 in total.
“I’m the happiest person today that finally this record is achieved, and I think everyone has been waiting for this. It came with a bit of pressure, but I am delighted that it is out of the way now and I hope to achieve even more in the future,” Nassuna said after the game.
It took Nassuna seven years to reach the 100-goal mark since making her debut in the FUFA Women Elite League in 2015.

Her first goal on the journey to 100 came against Kakira Women FC when Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC thrashed them 7-0 in 2015, a season in which she scored 14 goals and helped the club win its maiden league title.
During the 2016/2017 FUFA Women Elite League season, Nassuna scored 26 goals — a record for the most goals scored by a player in a single season that still stands today.
Nassuna finished as the league’s top scorer in the 2016/2017 and 2018/2019 seasons and also won the league MVP award in 2015, 2016, and 2018/2019.

In 2016, she was named the FUFA Female Player of the Year.
Although the flamboyant attacking midfielder is currently not actively playing football, she has never officially announced her retirement from the sport.
Born in Mityana, Nassuna has won several league and cup titles with Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, UCU Lady Cardinals, and Kampala Queens FC.
The 28-year-old also captained the Crested Cranes to their first-ever CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship title in 2022.
