Kitara President Kasozi Sets CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage Target

Kitara FC president Deo Kasozi has revealed the club’s target for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup campaign following their qualification for the continental competition.

Kasozi made the remarks on Friday, June 12, during the launch of the Hoima Regional Referral Hospital and Hoima Booma Training Facility in Hoima.

The event also saw Kitara FC receive official permission to host their CAF Confederation Cup home matches at Hoima City Stadium, a development confirmed by the State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang.

Speaking about the club’s continental ambitions, Kasozi said Kitara’s immediate target is to reach the group stage of the competition.

“We want to go as far as the group stages, and we expect many teams to come here at Hoima City Stadium,” Kasozi said.

Kitara featured in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup but were eliminated by Libyan side Al Hilal Benghazi, losing 6-4 on aggregate in the first preliminary round.

Kasozi also called upon the local community to support the club as it prepares to represent Uganda on the continental stage.

“I call upon the fans, transport operators and all the local people to play their part as we embrace this major milestone,” he added.

The Kitara president further expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, for extending financial support to the club.

“I thank the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, for the UGX 20 million support. It will help us with visa expenses and will be of great assistance to the club,” Kasozi said.

He also thanked the Government of Uganda for allowing the club to use Hoima City Stadium for its continental fixtures.

“I thank the Government of Uganda for granting us permission to use the Hoima City Stadium facility,” he concluded.

Kitara secured qualification for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after defeating SC Villa 2-1 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final to claim the trophy.

The winner of the Uganda Cup qualifies for the CAF Confederation Cup, while the Uganda Premier League champions earn a place in the CAF Champions League.
