KCCA Move to Hijack Kitara’s Transfer Target

Uganda Premier League giants KCCA FC have entered the race to sign midfielder Diego Ssemugera, who is also a top transfer target for Uganda Cup holders Kitara FC.

Ssemugera is available as a free agent after the expiry of his three-year contract with SC Villa, having joined the record league champions from Police FC.

This website understands that the midfielder is scheduled to meet Kitara FC president Deo Kasozi on Thursday, July 2, as the Hoima-based club looks to finalise his transfer.

However, KCCA FC contacted the player on Thursday morning to express their interest in signing him, setting up a potential transfer battle between the two clubs.

The Kasasiro Boys are keen to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Joel Sserunjogi, who has completed a move to Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC. Club officials reportedly view Ssemugera as an ideal replacement.

Despite KCCA’s late interest, Kitara FC are understood to have already agreed personal terms with the midfielder, with the player expected to complete the move after Thursday’s meeting.

Should the deal go through, Ssemugera is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Royals.

Nevertheless, sources indicate that KCCA FC will continue their efforts to convince the player to make the switch to Lugogo before any agreement is finalised.

Meanwhile, Kitara FC are also in advanced talks to sign midfielder Jeromy Kirya and have opened negotiations with striker Karim Ndugwa as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new season.

The Royals will represent Uganda in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup last season.
