Uganda Among the First Ten Countries to Benefit from CAF Africa Schools Football Championship Prize Money
This week, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed a list of ten countries that have so far benefited from the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship prize money since its inception in 2022.
Aligned with CAF’s strategic focus on youth development, all prize money awarded is strictly ring-fenced for non-professional football projects that enhance both education and football infrastructure.
This deliberate approach ensures that CAF delivers a sustainable legacy, empowering schools to create improved learning conditions while nurturing the next generation of African leaders.

Uganda’s two schools, Amus College from Mbale in Eastern Uganda and Royal Giant High School in Mityana, Central Uganda, acquired brand-new Isuzu buses courtesy of CAF prize money.
The official handover ceremony was held at FUFA House in Mengo on 17 April 2025 and was attended by FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo and USSSA President Justus Mugisha.
The prizes were awarded for the 2022 CECAFA Qualifiers held in Tanzania, where Royal Giant claimed the boys’ trophy and Amus finished third in the girls’ category.
With Amus and Royal Giant having received their prizes, three more Ugandan schools are in the process of receiving theirs following dominant performances in subsequent years.

Since then:
- St Mary’s Kitende has won the CECAFA Qualifiers twice and finished second once, accumulating USD 275,000.
- Kawempe Muslim has won the CECAFA Qualifiers once and finished third at the final championship, and is set to receive USD 250,000.
- St Noa Girls has also won the CECAFA Qualifiers once and finished second at the final championship in Ghana, and is set to receive USD 300,000.
