BREAKING: FUFA Set to Receive Shs 17.7 Billion for Uganda Cranes and Kadiba Stadium Upgrade Ahead of AFCON 2027

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is set to receive Shs 17.7 billion to support preparations for the PAMOJA 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Of this amount, Shs 5.2 billion will be allocated to the upgrade of Kadiba Stadium, while Shs 12.55 billion will go towards preparations for the Uganda Cranes.

The development was confirmed by Dr Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) Sub-committee on Communications, while addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre on Tuesday morning.

Uganda, alongside Tanzania and Kenya, will co-host AFCON 2027, scheduled to run from 19th June to 18th July 2027.

Kadiba Stadium is earmarked as one of the official training facilities for the tournament.

As one of the host nations, Uganda Cranes will be expected to deliver an improved performance on home soil. In the 2025 edition of AFCON, Uganda exited at the group stage, where they faced Tunisia, Nigeria and neighbours Tanzania.

All stadiums designated for the tournament in Uganda are expected to be ready by January 2027.

Uganda will host matches at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole and Hoima City Stadium.

Kenya’s venues will include Kasarani Stadium, Nyayo Stadium, Kipchoge Stadium and Talanta Stadium.

Tanzania will host games at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium and Dodoma Stadium.

According to Dr Mugimba, Uganda is expected to receive between 1.5 million and 1.8 million visitors during the tournament, with projections potentially rising to 2 million, a figure that could mark a record attendance for a CAF competition.

He also revealed that the LOC budget was revised from Shs 2.4 trillion down to Shs 900 billion, while the Government of Uganda has allocated Shs 1.3 trillion towards AFCON 2027 preparations.
