Express Coach Kintu Speaks Out Over Unpaid Wages After Police FC Victory

Express FC head coach Jimmy Kintu has revealed that players and staff at the club have gone months without pay, highlighting ongoing financial challenges within the team.

Kintu made the remarks during a post-match interview after Express FC defeated Police FC 3-1 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at Nakivubo on Wednesday evening.

Yosia Kisa, Henry Wamala, and Kenneth Kimera scored for Express, while Saidi Kyeyune netted the consolation goal for Police FC.

The victory marked Express FC’s second consecutive league win, lifting them to 26 points in the 10th place.

“Truth is that it’s not right, and we urge the Federation (FUFA) to intervene in such matters,” Kintu said.

“Especially for a team like Express FC, a traditional and historic club, to struggle to the extent that players and staff go this long without being paid is unacceptable. This is not a charity organisation. People have contracts and must be paid.” He added.

“Our role as coaches is to bring the players together so they can perform, even amidst such challenges, so that football prevails at the end of the day. But it’s not right. Something serious has to be done to revive the club.” He stated

Kintu further warned that the delay in wages is affecting players’ welfare, noting that many have families and personal responsibilities, which could ultimately impact their performance on the pitch.

It is rare for coaches to openly address such internal matters, but Kintu’s remarks underline the financial difficulties facing Ugandan football, even at the top-flight level.
