Bukedea Comprehensive vs Amus College: What Coaches and Captains Said Ahead of Historic USSSA Clash

Bukedea Comprehensive vs Amus College, 2pm – Lira Town College Playground

The pre-match press conference ahead of the 2026 USSSA Boys’ Football Championship final was held on Monday at Lira Town College.

Coaches and captains from finalists Amus College and Bukedea Comprehensive addressed the media ahead of the highly anticipated showdown scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 2pm (EAT).

Both schools are chasing a historic first-ever USSSA boys’ football title.

Here is what they said during the press conference:

Ronald Ssali – Bukedea Comprehensive Head Coach

“I thank the organising committee for hosting a good tournament and also my technical team for helping us reach the final. When I joined Bukedea, I assured my bosses that we were going to build a formidable team.”

“We are facing a team with good players and coaches, but it is our responsibility to prepare a team that can compete in the final and win the title.”

“We have faced Amus several times before, but tomorrow is a different game and we are under no pressure. We are ready to play them.”

“We have to manage fatigue because the players needed recovery time. I think the committee should consider increasing the number of registered players because 20 players are not enough for a tournament where teams play matches almost every day, especially considering these are young players.”

“The key factor in the final will be mental preparation and staying focused on the game plan so that we can win the title.”

Steven Balagadde – Bukedea Comprehensive Captain

“I am happy that we have managed to reach the final. It has been a real team effort and we are looking forward to putting in a better performance tomorrow and winning the title.”

Nimrod Kintu – Amus College Head Coach

“We respect Bukedea Comprehensive, but they are juniors to us, so our target is simply to win the final.”

“We had some lapses in Ngora, but it was a small gap within the technical staff because this is a project team. However, those issues have been worked on and now we are focused on winning gold in the final.”

“The players are excited about reaching the podium, but as coaches we must manage that excitement and ensure we finish as winners.”

“Bringing back coach Richard Malinga has been a positive adjustment to the technical team. He has played a big role in helping us reach the final and hopefully we can go on to win it.”

“Losing Pius Oyirwoth through suspension is a big blow for us, but we have already planned for his replacement.”

Jamil Idi Rashid – Amus College Captain

“We are happy to have reached the final. It will not be an easy game and we cannot just assume that we are going to win the trophy.”

“We have come from far and we came here to win the trophy. With God’s grace, we believe we can achieve it.”

“It is a derby, although both teams are away from home. This year we came to make history, and there is no success without preparation. We have prepared very well.”

To reach the final, 10-man Amus College eliminated St Mary’s Kitende 4-1 on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time, while Bukedea Comprehensive defeated Kyadondo SS 1-0 thanks to Patrick Ssenkusu’s lone strike.

Whichever side wins on Tuesday will lift the USSSA Boys’ Football Championship title for the first time in the school’s history.
