FUFA Approves Statute Amendments at Extraordinary General Assembly

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Thursday, June 4, 2026, held an Extraordinary General Assembly virtually in accordance with its statutes.

The assembly was chaired by FUFA President Moses Magogo and attended by delegates from across the federation.

The meeting was convened to align FUFA’s statutes with the requirements and recommendations of the National Council of Sports (NCS) under the National Sports Act Cap 151 and the National Sports Regulations. As a result, Articles 1, 24, 36, 67, 68, 74, 75, and 91 were amended.

FUFA Legal Director Denis Lukambi explained the rationale behind the amendments.

“The National Sports Regulations provide that the constitution of a national sports federation or association must include specific clauses. The way these clauses are worded in the regulations, they were effectively copied and incorporated into our FUFA statutes,” Lukambi said.

He added that several gaps had been identified and addressed through the proposed amendments.

“There were about six clauses that were missing. These have now been addressed and presented to the FUFA delegates, who unanimously approved all the proposed amendments to the statutes,” he said.

On dispute resolution, Lukambi highlighted a significant policy shift.

“Previously, disputes were referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) as the federation’s dispute resolution mechanism. The recommendation now is that all matters relating to disputes be referred to the National Sports Arbitration Tribunal in accordance with the National Sports Act,” he explained.

Lukambi further confirmed the next steps following the approval of the amendments.

“Following the approval by the General Assembly, we shall submit the amended statutes to the National Council of Sports for further approval to ensure full compliance with the law and facilitate our registration as a national sports federation,” he said.

The amendments mark an important step in ensuring that FUFA’s governance framework is fully aligned with Uganda’s current sports legislation and regulatory requirements.
