Government, FUFA Financial Boost Leaves Kawempe Muslim Ladies With No Excuse at CAF Women’s Champions League

Uganda’s representatives at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, have received a major financial boost from the government and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) ahead of the continental tournament scheduled for November in Egypt.

The financial support is expected to ease the club’s preparations and address some of the logistical challenges that had threatened to affect the team’s participation in the competition.

According to a document released by Kawempe Muslim Ladies chief executive officer Waiswa Hamuza and seen by Sports Light Uganda, the government has provided UGX 50 million to support the team’s preparations and participation in the tournament.

The government’s contribution was channelled through the Ministry of Education and Sports State Minister to the National Council of Sports (NCS).

FUFA has also stepped in to cover the team’s air tickets to Egypt, easing concerns over travel arrangements for the players and officials ahead of their continental assignment.

The financial interventions provide a timely boost for the FUFA Women Super League champions as they prepare to represent the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) zone at the tournament.

The 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League is scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from November 1 to 15.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies have been drawn into a competitive group featuring Moroccan side AS FAR, Mali’s USFAS Bamako and a representative from the WAFU Zone B region.

The Ugandan champions secured their place at the continental showpiece after edging Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 in extra time in the final of the CECAFA qualifying tournament held in Kigali, Rwanda.

With the government’s financial support and FUFA’s intervention on travel arrangements, Kawempe Muslim Ladies will head to Egypt with some of their key logistical concerns addressed.

Attention will now turn to the pitch, where the Ugandan champions will be expected to compete against some of Africa’s leading women’s football clubs and make a lasting impression on their continental debut.
