Uganda Rugby Union Confirms New Dates for Premiership Playoff Semi-Finals
The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has confirmed new dates for the Uganda Rugby Premiership playoff semi-finals following the postponement of the first semi-final between Heathens RFC and Stanbic Black Pirates RFC.
The match had initially been scheduled for June 8, 2026, at Kyadondo Rugby Club but was postponed after the tragic death of Uganda Rugby Cranes and Black Pirates player Sydney Gongodyo, who reportedly lost his life in a mob attack on June 5.
Following Gongodyo’s burial in Sironko District, URU announced through its official communication channels that the first-leg semi-final between Heathens and Black Pirates will now be played on Saturday, June 13, at Kyadondo Rugby Club, with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m.

The return leg is scheduled for the weekend of June 20 and will take place at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.
In the other semi-final, Toyota Buffaloes will host Impis in the second leg on Friday, June 12, at Kyadondo Rugby Club, with kickoff slated for 4:30 p.m.
Buffaloes head into the decisive encounter with a significant advantage after securing a 20-11 victory in the first leg at Makerere Graveyard.
The rescheduled fixtures are expected to attract considerable interest as the remaining teams battle for places in the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership final.
Meanwhile, the rugby fraternity continues to mourn Gongodyo, whose death has sparked widespread calls for justice, with police investigations into the incident still ongoing.
