Waswa Stars as Toyota Buffaloes Reach Uganda Rugby Premiership Final
Yasin Waswa once again delivered a standout performance as Toyota Buffaloes defeated Makerere Impis over two legs to secure a place in the final of the 2025/26 Uganda Rugby Premiership.
Waswa, who joined the Buffaloes from Jinja Hippos, was instrumental in the second leg played at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Friday, June 12, 2026.
The influential back scored 13 points, crossing for a try in the first half, assisting another in the second half, and adding four successful conversions in a superb individual display.
Toyota Buffaloes claimed a convincing 28-12 victory in the second leg. Coupled with their 20-11 win in the first leg, the Kyadondo-based side advanced to the final with a commanding 48-23 aggregate triumph.
Hector Twinomugisha, Abdullah Mbidde and Daniel Otim also got on the scoresheet, each scoring a try to complement Waswa’s contribution and help Buffaloes cruise to victory.
For Makerere Impis, Mashate Lincoln and Ssentongo Robert scored tries, but their efforts were not enough to prevent Buffaloes from progressing to the championship decider.
Toyota Buffaloes will now face the winner of the other semi-final between Stanbic Black Pirates and Platinum Credit Heathens.
The first leg of that semi-final, which had been scheduled for June 7, was postponed following the death of Black Pirates player Sydney Gongodyo.
The fixture has since been rescheduled as the rugby fraternity continues to mourn the fallen player while completing the playoff campaign.
