BREAKING: Vipers Appoint French Coach Denis Lavagne as New Head Coach

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have officially unveiled French tactician Denis Lavagne as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Venoms confirmed the appointment on Tuesday through their official social media platforms, announcing that the 61-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the club.

Lavagne succeeds Belgian coach Jacky Minnaert, who departed at the end of the 2025/26 season after guiding Vipers SC to the Uganda Premier League title.

The experienced Frenchman will be assisted by John Ayala Luyinda as the Venoms prepare for the new campaign.

Lavagne arrives at Vipers SC with more than two decades of coaching experience, having enjoyed success across Africa. During his time with Coton Sport, he won four league titles and two Cameroon Cup trophies.

The experienced French tactician also served as head coach of the Cameroon senior men’s national team between 2011 and 2012.

Lavagne will officially begin his tenure at Vipers SC on Wednesday, July 1, when the club starts its pre-season preparations ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Venoms are set for a busy schedule, beginning with the CECAFA Kagame Club Cup, which will run from July 18 to August 9.

They will also compete in the 2026/27 FUFA Super 8 before facing Uganda Cup holders Kitara FC in the 2026/27 FUFA Super Cup on August 23.

The 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on August 28, with Vipers aiming to successfully defend their league title.

In total, Lavagne’s side is expected to compete in more than five competitions during the upcoming season, including the CAF Champions League.
