Joel Muyita – Kawowo Sports Journalist

“I first met Cissy Nantongo in 2015 when she was a student at Kakungulu Memorial School, Kibuli. She was part of a talented generation that included Vanessa Karungi, Shamirah Nalugya, and Jauharah Nabaggala.

The following year, some of those players moved to Mukono High School and formed a formidable team that went on to win the USSSA Girls Football Championship in Kabale in 2017, with Nantongo serving as captain.

That same year, Nantongo and Karungi joined Olila High School on loan from She Corporate and helped the Soroti-based side win the inaugural FUFA Women’s Cup.

Nantongo eventually became a close friend during the 2017 East Africa Secondary School Games in Gulu. We shared many memories over the years.

It is sad that you are gone, but you leave behind countless memories that we will always cherish.

Rest in Power, Kajozi.”

A Lasting Legacy

Nantongo will be remembered as a disciplined and dedicated footballer who achieved remarkable success both on and off the pitch.

In 2017, she won the inaugural FUFA Women’s Cup with Olila High School before lifting the trophy again with She Corporate FC in 2024.

She was part of the She Corporate side that won the 2021/22 FUFA Women Super League title and also claimed silver with the She Corporate Sharks in the 2022 CECAFA Women’s Club Championship qualifiers.

During the 2023/24 season, Nantongo captained She Corporate FC to the FUFA Women Elite League title, helping the club secure an immediate return to the top flight.

Her leadership, determination, and passion for the game leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of female footballers in Uganda.

What a loss to the world of football!
Cissy was an unbelievable fighter on pitch, cool outside the pitch, friendly.
I remember using her boots for some time when I had missed mine.

She’s been known in school alumni leagues including the giovanni league and comboni league, where she featured in different teams!
It’s so hard to take, but it is what it is!

    Rest in eternity Cissy 💔
