The Uganda U17 girls’ national team, the Teen Cranes, defeated Zimbabwe 4-1 in the return leg to advance to the next round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

The match, played at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, saw Uganda complete a dominant performance over the two legs.

Acen Immaculate, Brenda Nassaka, Terry Mora, and Giovanna Aketogwanga were all on target for Uganda, while Shantel Gwenhamo scored the consolation goal for Zimbabwe.

Uganda showed intent from the first whistle, dominating possession and creating chances early on.

Their efforts paid off in the 16th minute when midfielder Brenda Nassaka made a brilliant run into the box before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom left corner to give the hosts the lead.

Twelve minutes later, Uganda had a chance to double their advantage after being awarded a penalty, but Acen Immaculate struck the left post and the ball went out.

However, she made amends eight minutes later with a superb solo effort, doubling Uganda’s lead with a composed finish.

Before halftime, Giovanna Aketogwanga added a third goal for Uganda, but Zimbabwe responded through Shantel Gwenhamo to reduce the deficit, sending the teams into the break with Uganda leading 3-1.

In the second half, Zimbabwe adopted a more defensive approach, committing several fouls in an attempt to limit further damage. Uganda remained in control despite the physical nature of the game.

There was a moment of concern when goalkeeper Sharifah Kizito Namuwaya suffered an injury and was replaced by Mayimuna Namuwaya.

Substitute Terry Mora later sealed the victory with a fourth goal, ensuring a convincing 4-1 win on the day.

Having already secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Harare, Uganda progressed with a commanding 6-1 aggregate score.

The Teen Cranes will now face either Namibia or Kenya in the next round of the qualifiers.
